What do these Journalists want from MI. If you want the old MI Abaga listen to his old shit. Artistes have phases and for legends like MI their music is highly influenced by the phase they’ve found themselves in. MI has done numbers and sold records, he’s been largely successful commercially and he won’t make hits forever. Everyone that hit the scene at the same time MI did (08) is not as relevant today that’s if they are still on the scene. Let MI be, let the man make music that keeps him sane.

This has to be the most nonsensical BS I have read in recent memory. How dare you sit in you haughty silky chair and disrespect one of the finest artist from the African continent! And I don't mean this by his past work, but from his recent projects like Yung Dnzyl, Judah and the Live Report. Tell me who's done a better Job. NEWS FLASH: Everyone can't be doing club bangers!

Perceptibly, I can say most of these works you consider as MI best projects are not even anything compared to his recent works with exception of his first album "Talk About It". Matter of fact, till today, I still feel "The Chairman" project is a huge let-down.

I can't say exactly what you consider an artist and a good project, but Yung DNZYL stands there at the top with any project from the African continent; A brilliant album so deep, conscious and creative that it has the power to get you thinking and wondering how higher can this man raise the bars!

Anyway, I guess my time is done here. Your idea of artist and perception of what a good project is just doesn't make any sense to me. Perhaps, coz i'm not a Rema fan. But nonetheless, I wish you the best with your writings.

And ps. M.I won the rap beef with Vec hands down! it's almost insane to compare Abaga's artistry and creativity with Vecs. both being great artists, but always..there's levels to this sh*t.

I think that the last bit about M.I is absolutely true. I have been an MI fan since around 2009 and I have followed his career since that time. Unfortunately, there has never been a time when MI's music has been as difficult to listen to as it is now. It's been difficult to listen to because it's been difficult to relate to. The fans can't relate to it now, or aspire to it or reminisce through it. You raised a big point about the songs MI performs at shows and concerts and it's something I've been thinking and talking about for while. He always goes back to songs like Anoti & African Rapper Number 1 before borrowing from the Choc City catalog.

Bad Belle is the only one from the Chairman album he performs with the older hits. If he's really confident about pushing the game and the culture like he's been preaching, he can definitely do songs like Shekpe, Human Beings, Lekki, Popping

I was at the album listening for Rendezvous & Yxng Dxnzl and I saw how much people still do love MI's art. He is undeniably a poet, an intelligent one. And he's made great art. To me, he stopped doing that when he started this consistent bragging. My least favorite songs on Yxng Dxnzl were Fix Up Your Life & I Believe in You. Inasmuch as the latter song had some motivational merit, I still find it difficult to see it beyond a bit of self hype. A bit of self hype isn't bad. It only gets bad when it's all you begin to focus on. And that Fix Up Your Life song spiraled into the Viper song, and culminated in an album for "his tribe".

Unfortunately, the tribe will disappear when there's no longer any reason to stay. MI has not moved into a new phase or evolved or anything like that. It's like Eminem losing relevance cos he didn't evolve. MI is kinda like our Eminem. Undoubtedly talented, but unfortunately falling off.

He still has time though. And no, it's not just about doing hits and bangers and dropping punchlines. It's about making music for the people. MI is currently making music for himself & his 100 crowns kinda people. At his level, he should be able to straddle several "crowds".

I believe in Him. He should to.

Bro I think you're getting it absolutely wrong. You talk about M.I as an artist but forget he's human. You think he's going to keep making bangers? Hell no he won't. Maybe in the future but right now, let him be where he's at. He's not seeking for fame, money or whatever. And you bring naira marley and falz. Naira hasn't spent up to 5 years in the industry, falz is dope for sure but still he's not the same falz of old. So I suggest you let M.I be for now. Don't expect Jay Z or Diddy or Fat Joe to keep making the bangers.

You sef you go tire one day, you won't have the zeal, enthusiasm and drive to do what you do now. He's seen it all, enjoy his current pace.

You know what Joey, I like your write ups a lot, they are always catchy and filled with intrigues, but this nonsense you wrote here is unnecessary. I feel like you are succumbing to the crowd mentality of crucifying an innocent man. For a while, I felt Ml lost it because of the quality of his projects, but this new MI reminds me of the MI we all fell in love with. In my opinion, this last project is one of his best projects anyway, but what do I know? Guess we are all entitled to our opinions.

In as much as I idolize your write ups I still and strongly disagree with this on M.I Sir, this might be your views but out of hundreds you hardly can find 5% with such opinion about M. Less if forget Sir, M.I has never lost any battle to Vec. Thanks

I’m a huge MI fan and I see where you’re driving at. Commercial MI is also needed. I believe MI himself will do something about this.

Kai. Thought you were a good writer o. Apparently you don't study music trend. There is a reason why "self actualization" is at the peak of the pyramid of Needs. The man has paid his dues. The only thing that motivates him is self actualization and for now that is what he is achieving.

Nah Joey. You made this too personal. How did MI lose the beef to Vector? I agree that his popularity isn't the same as before, however its just like telling JayZ or Eminem to be chasing numbers. MI is no longer interested in numbers of radio plays anymore. If you are an ardent rap critic you'd understand this, except you are just another music fan who's interested in airplay. But it shouldn't, you called this blog Afro beats intelligence.
